Head of the DAAD Regional Office Tbilisi
Cay Etzold took over the interim management of the new DAAD Regional Office in Tbilisi on July 1, 2021.
Mr. Etzold studied Latin American studies and history at the University of Rostock from 1978 to 1983 and graduated with a diploma (M.A.). He then worked at the University of Rostock and at the Humboldt University in Berlin before moving to the Ministry of Higher Education of the former GDR in 1987. With German reunification, he joined the DAAD in 1990.
In various functions he was responsible for different scholarship programs and university projects for developing countries. Furthermore, from 2001 to 2005 he headed the DAAD Regional Office in Nairobi and worked as Resident Twinning Advisor in the first EU-funded twinning project in Georgia (2009-2011).
Mr. Etzold held various positions in the DAAD, was head of department for university cooperation projects, for alumni and partnership programs in developing countries, for eastern and southern Africa and most recently for scholarship programs in Africa, before coming to Georgia again in 2019-2021 as Resident Twinning Advisor, to work in the second twinning project in the education sector at the Georgian National Accreditation Agency.
